03 · POWERBACK

The Powerback was engineered with US Utilities - light & easy to maneuver, single-turn meter adapter, redundant overcurrent protection and built-in monitoring reliability - designed by lineman, for lineman

Light & Easy to Maneuver

A toroidal core makes Power-Back dramatically lighter than conventional E-I lamination units, so a single lineman can position it at the meter pan without a hoist or a second set of hands.

Single-turn Meter Adapter

Connect at the meter in one turn. The Power-Back meter adapter installs fast and includes a neutral – so you restore service in minutes instead of running temporary above-ground conductors.

Never-flat Tires

Airless tires designed for rugged deployments

2x Trip Protection

A built-in 2× overcurrent trip safeguards the unit and the service during temporary restoration – safety engineered in, not bolted on.

Made in USA: 1-2 wk leadtime

Every Power-Back is Manufactured in Shelton, Connecticut, with a 1–2 week lead time. No import delays.

04 · How It Works

When a Single Leg Fails, Don't Leave Customers in the Dark

An open hot leg or neutral – from a storm, damaged underground cable, or equipment fault – can drop a customer’s 120/240V service even when the upstream transformer is fine. Locating and repairing the fault often takes days.

PowerBack temporary power restoration autotransformers (also known in the industry as add-a-phase or service-saver devices) solve this by connecting directly between the meter socket and the meter. This Service Savor quickly regenerates the missing leg, restoring full balanced service immediately.

PowerBack restores load current on an open hot leg up to its rated capacity and full service on an open neutral up to its neutral current rating – giving your crews valuable time to schedule the permanent repair on their own timeline.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is PowerBack?

PowerBack is Bridgeport Magnetics’ premium line of temporary power restoration autotransformers, widely recognized in the utility industry as add-a-phase, service-saver, or Servisavor-style devices. These high-efficiency toroidal units connect at the customer meter socket to quickly regenerate a missing hot leg or neutral on single-phase 120/240V or 120/208V services. By restoring full balanced power in minutes, this service savor allows utilities to keep customers online while scheduling permanent underground cable repairs on their own timeline, significantly improving outage response times and customer satisfaction.

PowerBack installs quickly and easily using its single-turn meter adapter (with integrated neutral). Simply remove the customer meter, plug in the PowerBack adapter, and reinstall the meter. No temporary overhead conductors are needed, allowing a single lineman to restore service at the meter pan in minutes.

Service Savor wheeled models (including the lightweight PowerBack Lite series) are designed for easy rolling access on driveways, paved areas, and standard job sites. They offer excellent maneuverability with never-flat tires and higher capacity options. The Trident modular system, by contrast, breaks down into lighter hand-carry components (approximately 45 lb per transformer plus control unit), making it the best choice for rough terrain, backyards, flooded areas, or locations where wheeling a full unit is impractical. Both families use the same advanced toroidal technology and were engineered hand-in-hand with working line crews.

Yes. This service Savor effectively restores load current on an open hot leg up to its full kVA rating. On an open neutral condition, it restores stable, full balanced service up to its neutral current rating. However, the unit cannot simultaneously correct both a missing hot leg and a missing neutral on the same service. Crews should always verify good conductors before deployment following standard utility procedures.

Every Servisavor unit comes equipped with built-in voltage and amperage monitoring so field crews can instantly verify that proper service voltage has been restored. It also features redundant 2× overcurrent trip protection (in addition to thermal safeguards), providing an extra margin of safety during temporary restoration. These engineered-in protections help safeguard both the unit and customer equipment, reducing risk compared to basic or add-on safety solutions found on some competitive temporary power restoration devices.

Yes – every PowerBack autotransformer is designed, wound, and assembled in our Shelton, Connecticut facility. Typical lead time is just 1–2 weeks with no import delays, giving utilities fast access to reliable domestic equipment.

The Wheeled Service Savor family includes models from 15 kVA (suitable for 150A services) up to 50 kVA (ideal for multi-home or larger commercial restorations). Popular options include the PowerBack Lite 15kVA and 20kVA for everyday residential use, plus higher-capacity wheeled units (20K-M, 30K-M, and 50K-M). This wide range allows utilities to match the right Service Savor solution to specific service requirements and site conditions.

PowerBack stands out with its high-efficiency toroidal core design, which makes the units significantly lighter and more portable than many conventional E-I core alternatives like the Von Servisavor or SNC Restore-Lite. Additional advantages include the single-turn meter adapter for faster installs, never-flat tires, and built-in 2× trip protection with monitoring. Many utilities choose the BMG Service Savor for the combination of one-person deployment, rapid U.S. availability, and long-term reliability in demanding field conditions. For a detailed side-by-side comparison, see our Servisavor alternatives guide.
