SUBJECT TO UTILITY COMPANY SAFETY RULES.

Caution: Not for use with 3-phase power. Do not exceed power rating stated on Trident control unit.

Customer complaint: Flickering or failing light circuits. 240V service for range or clothes dryer missing. Possible causes: Transformer or service cable failure. Service cables may be direct buried, in conduit or above ground on utility poles. They may fail due to age and deterioration of insulation, ground movement, flooding, construction digging. Result: One or both hot legs or neutral cables are damaged or broken.

Version A: Integrated with meter adapter. (included)

  1. Wear appropriate PPE and other protection.
  2. Verify problem at customer’s service panel using voltmeter.  Either one hot leg and the neutral or both hot legs are required. Do not install Trident unless two conductors are good.
  3. Turn off customer’s main circuit breaker.
  4. Remove customer’s meter.
  5. Check voltage at meter pan with voltmeter. Hot to neutral 120V and hot to hot 240V significantly lower voltages indicate which cable is failing. 
  6. Disconnect the failing cable at the meter pan and at the source.
  7. Place transformer 1 (with cable plug) and 2 (with cable plug) below the meter box. Use back hook to suspend the control module from meter pan.
  8. Place the ground lug tab on the green Trident meter adapter pig tail under the ground lug bolt in the meter pan and tighten well.
  9. Sequence step 1. Make sure that the two Trident circuit breakers are off.
  10. Check that the locking tabs on the meter adapter are retracted. (If not, turn the center screw ¼ turn in counterclockwise direction).  
  11. Sequence step 2. Install the Trident meter adapter in the meter pan. Turn center screw ¼ turn clockwise to lock in place. Plug transformer 1 and 2 in.  Turn both circuit breakers on.
  12. Check 240V present across top terminals and 120V between both hot legs and neutral.
  13. Sequence step 3. Turn Trident circuit breakers off.
  14. Install meter in the adapter.
  15. Sequence step 4. Turn Trident circuit breakers on.
  16. Turn customer’s main circuit breaker on.
  17. When removing from service, wrap cables around transformer carry handle mounts.
  18. Return the Trident components to Truck, or Car trunk.  
Always Follow Sequence 1, 2, 3, 4 for safety and to avoid circuit breakers tipping due to inrush surge.

Version B: With 10’ cable. 4 AWG 4 stranded leads. No meter adapter.

  1. Wear appropriate PPE and other protection.
  2. Verify problem at customer’s service panel using voltmeter.  Either one hot leg and the neutral or both hot legs are required. Do not install Trident unless two conductors are good.
  3. Turn off customer’s main circuit breaker.
  4. Remove customer’s meter.
  5. Check voltage at meter pan with voltmeter. Hot to neutral 120V and hot to hot 240V. Significantly lower voltages indicate which cable is failing. 
  6. Disconnect the failing cable at the meter pan and at the source.
  7. Place transformer 1 (with cable plug) and 2 (with cable plug) below the meter box. Place the control module on the ground, on top of transformers, or suspend below meter pan.
  8. Place the ground lug tab on the green/white wire under the ground lug bolt in the meter pan and tighten well. Connect the black wire to the left leg lug and red wire to the right leg lug. Tighten well
  9.  Sequence step 1. Make sure that the two Trident circuit breakers are off.  
  10.   Sequence step 2.  Plug transformer 1 and 2 in.  Turn both circuit breakers on.
  11. Check 240V present across top terminals and 120V between both hot legs and neutral.
  12. Sequence step 3. Turn Trident circuit breakers off.
  13. Install meter.
  14. Sequence step 4. Turn Trident circuit breakers off.
  15. Turn customer’s main circuit breaker on.
  16.  When removing from service, wrap cables around transformer carry handle mounts.
  17. Return the Trident components to Truck, or Car trunk.  

Always Follow Sequence 1, 2, 3, 4 for safety and to avoid circuit breakers tipping due to inrush surge.
